  • It's in an awkward position, aged, but still on point with many features. If Victoria II were designed like CK2 and the later games, I'd see the game constantly getting improved and added upon, but it's not. Clauswitz is it and they're only going to improve it, not replace it. I'm not saying I agree with it, but I can see where they're coming from.Īlso, they're not swapping engines any time soon. But the base mechanics are still sound and it's difficult to justify a sequel. Sure, we're not designers here, but with a game so large, it's hard to see large improvements. Everything is just a minor tweak, a few bug fixes, etc. However, that's a bit old and it might have changed.įinally, IIRC, they don't have enough big stuff to require a sequel. Not that we don't try to enlighten them to it's glory, that is.Īfter that, the last I heard they're missing a major point person, a driving force behind the game. I bet a large majority of Paradox game players haven't even heard of Victoria II. I hope you don't mind!įirst of all, the voices calling for Victoria III are probably a vocal minority, so don't think there's a large mass of people clamoring for it. Long story short, posting this here so I can have something to re-direct people to when they ask about it, ahaha. None of this is innately good or bad but every time I see one of these threads, people either act as if VIII will descend from heaven wrapped in garments of light, or is out to personally kill and cannibalise their best friend or something.

    These, along with a generally burgeoning interest in the era, will make VIII more of a commercial and critical success than either of its predecessors. It'll be a very good game, very tightly-produced, with many 'quality of life' and convenience improvements that make VII - hard to play, to put it lightly. I do think they'll release a VIII, I'd say within five years. I would be willing to put down money that there are more people that've booted up HoI III and nope'd out of the tutorial than have even installed Victoria II.Īnd now, they are more sensitive than ever to return on investment they can't just produce VIII because they want to. If you look at 'popular' opinion, you're seeing a very flawed and misinformed picture. Well, it's because when you love or hate something, you're more likely to comment on it but the actual people willing to comment on a thing are a minority in the first place, so. Have you ever wondered why there are only loud-mouthed mouthbreathers and fawning sycophants in the review section of game_string_here? This isn't a bash on you, but remember that we're very vocal - but a very vocal minority.
